2005 Late Picked Riesling
This medium sweet white wine was made from hand-picked Riesling fruit from low yielding vines which grow on the highest slopes of the vineyard at Skillogalee (about 500 metres above sea level). The vines are hand-pruned and the fruit is hand-picked around a month later than the fruit for our dry Riesling. Vintage 2005 was an unexceptional year in terms of weather. Crops were heavier than in the previous three or four vintages but a cool, sunny finish ensured good flavour development and natural acid retention.
On the nose there are ripe lime citrus aromas with hints of honey and bath-powder. The palate has luscious fruit flavours and quite a bit of residual sugar, balanced by refreshing acidity giving a full, satisfying finish. A great wine for mild curries, rich white meat dishes or light desserts. Will cellar well for at least 10 years.
