2010 Gewurztraminer
Skillogalee Gewurztraminers are made in the classic style - aromatic and spicy with a crisp finish. Fruit quality was excellent after flavours were able to develop during the final few weeks of the growing season. After good winter rains the growing season was punctuated with short bursts of high temperature but the vines survived by utilising the additional ground water. The season ended with a few cool weeks just before harvest.
The wine shows the unmistakable floral, rose petal aromas and flavours of Traminer fruit, sometimes also reminiscent of passion fruit and lychees. The 2010 wine was fermented with light grape solids present, which creates a wine with silky texture and complexity. It has strength of character without being oily or overpowering, making it an incredibly versatile food matching wine: top of the list should be lightly spiced, contemporary Asian food or flavoursome white meat dishes. Cellaring for up to about 5 years will repay dividends.
