2012 Trevarrick Cabernet Franc - SOLD OUT

Trevarrick was the original name of the Skillogalee property, settled by John and Anne Trestrail in the early 1850’s.  In 1970 it was planted to vines and renamed.  Now at Skillogalee, each individual contour block on the Estate is harvested and vinified separately.  The Trevarrick name is reserved for individual wines that are of exceptional quality and varietal character.

Vintage 2012 is considered amongst locals as the most stellar red wine vintage in recent memory in the Clare Valley.  The vineyards got ample winter rainfall to set them up for a long and mild growing season with flavour and colour development in the berries taking place concurrently and steadily over an extended period.

This is the first release of a single varietal Cabernet Franc for Skillogalee - typically this variety has been used as a component of ‘The Cabernets’. The wine is a bright and vibrant garnet in colour with hints of purple. There are lifted aromas of cedar, violets, nutmeg, bergamot and milk chocolate. On the palate the wine is medium bodied, with flavours of blackcurrant, roasting herbs and strong hints of lavender. Natural ripe tannins and acidity give the wine a focal structure and exquisite length.

The wine is crafted in a way that it can be enjoyed thoroughly upon release, but has the tannin and acid structure to develop for the next 10 – 15 years.
